ילדותו

גיל (גילי), בן מתילדה (מולי) ועבדו (אדוארד), נולד ביום י"ג באדר תשי"ג (28.2.1953) בקהיר שבמצרים ועלה ארצה עם משפחתו בשנת תשי"ז (1957). הוא למד בבית-הספר היסודי על-שם גורדון בחולון ובבית-הספר תל-נורדאו בתל-אביב.

His childhood
Gil (Gillo), son of Matilda (Molly) and Abdo (Edward), was born on the third day of Adar (28.2.1953) in Cairo, Egypt and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1957. He attended elementary school "Gordon" in Holon city and the "Tel-Nordau" School in Tel Aviv.

His life in the Kibbutz

תקופת שירותו הצבאי בגדוד 51 בחטיבת גולני

גיל גויס לצה"ל בתחילת נובמבר 1971. תחילה ביקש להתנדב לשרת בקומנדו הימי, אך הוצב לחטיבת "גולני". בטירונות היה חניך מצטיין ולאחר הטירונות השתלם בקורס מ"כים. הוא היה סמל מחלקה מצוין, אחראי ומסור לתפקידו, ומחלקתו הייתה המחלקה הממושמעת והמאורגנת ביותר בפלוגה. הוא לא הקפיד על גינוני משמעת אך דרש ביצוע מדויק, היה אהוב מאוד על פקודיו והיה להם חבר ואיש סוד. הוא נמנה עם חברי נבחרת הכדורסל שהשתתפה באליפות צה"ל. בעבור חלקו בפעילות מבצעית הוענק לו "אות השירות המבצעי".

His military service in the 51st Battalion in the Golani Infantry Brigade
Gil was recruited to the IDF in early November 1971. He initially sought to volunteer to serve in the Naval Command, but was assigned to the "Golani" infantry brigade. He was an excellent department sergeant, responsible and dedicated to his position, and his department was the most disciplined and organized department in the company. He did not adhere to discipline but demanded accurate execution, was much loved by his subordinates and had a friend and confidante. He was one of the basketball team members who participated in the IDF championship. For his part in operational activities he was awarded the "operational service signal".

נפילתו

כשפרצה מלחמת יום-הכיפורים נשלח עם אנשי יחידתו לחזית ברמת הגולן. ביום כ"ד בתשרי תשל"ד (20.10.1973) נפל גיל בקרב ליד מזרעת-בית-ג'אן. בהפגזה פתאומית פגע טיל בראשו והוא נהרג במקום. הוא הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בקרית-שאול. השאיר אחריו אב, אם ואח. לאחר נופלו הועלה לדרגת סמל-ראשון.

במכתב תנחומים למשפחה השכולה כתב מפקדו: "גיל ז"ל נלחם כמי שיודע למען מה הוא נלחם - באומץ, בגבורה, במסירות ובהקרבה",

קבוצתו הוציאה לאור חוברת לזכר חללי הקבוצה, שנפלו במלחמת יום-הכיפורים וגיל בתוכם.

His death in the war

When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he was sent with his unit to the front on the Golan Heights. On the day of the Tishrei 5764 (20.10.1973), GIL fell in battle near the village of Mazera'at-Bet-Jann. In a sudden bombardment, a missile hit his head and he was killed on the spot. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Left behind father, mother and brother. After falling, he was promoted to first sergeant.In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: "Gil fights as one who knows what he is fighting for - with courage, valor, dedication and sacrifice",.
Kibbutz Hulda has published a booklet in memory of the kibbutz's victims, who fell in the Yom Kippur War and Gil is mentioned in this booklet.

On October 8, Gil wrote to his parents - "Yesterday we were from the TV. You may have seen me."

The letter was discovered after his father's death in 2004. Two years ago, his brother located the film. Gil does not appear in this movie. The pictures in this movie are probably the last sights in Gil's life.
