איתן, תלמיד מנומס, שקט ונעים הליכות, הוא נכדו של מתפלל ותיק של ביה"כ, ריימוד בוהדנה הי"ו. משפחתו המתגוררת בקנדה בחרה לערוך את שמחת הנחת התפילין ואת העליה לתורה בבית הכנסת של הסבא ועל כך אנו גאים ושמחים. איתן הניח תפילין ביום ג' טבת ועלה לתורה יומיים לאחר מכן בשבת פרשת ויגש.
Eitan, a polite, quiet, and pleasant-mannered student, is the grandson of a longtime congregant of the synagogue, Raymond Bohadana (may he be blessed with long life). His family, who reside in Canada, chose to celebrate the joyous occasion of his laying of tefillin and his aliyah to the Torah at his grandfather’s synagogue, and we are proud and happy about this. Eitan laid tefillin on the 3rd of Tevet and was called up to the Torah two days later, on Shabbat, Parashat Vayigash.
The Synagogue Committee wishes Eitan that just as he merited celebrating his bar mitzvah at the Salonikan Synagogue by the Port of Tel Aviv, so too may he merit a wedding, a life of mitzvot, and good deeds.

A large gathering, including family members from all parts of the country and from abroad, assembled in our new sanctuary to celebrate Eitan’s joyous occasion. With great joy and song, Eitan was called up to the Torah, and in a calm and pleasant voice he read from the Torah as silence prevailed in the synagogue and the congregation listened attentively to the melodious reading.
In keeping with the long-standing tradition of the synagogue, Eitan was presented with an elegant certificate commemorating this happy event, as well as a Kiddush booklet containing all the blessings for Shabbat and the festivals of Israel. We concluded the ceremony with the reading of a humorous statement written in the past by the synagogue’s gabbai, Ezra Yehezkel, of blessed memory.
After the prayer service, the family gathered in the foyer and around tables laden with an abundance of refreshments, which were set outside the walls of the sanctuary onto the sidewalk plaza, as a pleasant sun warmed the celebrants engaged in a festive seudat mitzvah featuring delicious delicacies.

A long-standing tradition observed in the synagogue is the presentation of a gift to the bar mitzvah celebrant: a booklet of blessings and kiddush for Shabbat, the festivals, and the appointed times of Israel; a copy of the parparot (humorous sayings) written by the synagogue’s gabbai, Ezra Yehezkel Rip, of blessed memory, adapted especially for the occasion; and, in addition, Eitan was presented with a framed certificate attesting that the bar mitzvah celebration was held at the Synagogue of the Port Workers of Tel Aviv.

Another beautiful tradition, practiced for many decades, is to bless the bar mitzvah student with the blessing “May the Lord bless you and keep you…”. Thus, Eitan was blessed on Shabbat, Parashat Vayigash.

בתום התפילה, יצאו בני ובנות המשפחה למבואה ולרחבה מחוץ לביה"כ ונהנו משולחנות עמוסים מ כל טוב, מאפים, סלטים, ירקות ועוגות, ממש מכל טוב וכל זאת כששמש נעימה מלטפת את האורחים
At the conclusion of the prayer service, the family members went out to the foyer and the plaza outside the synagogue and enjoyed tables laden with an abundance of treats—pastries, salads, vegetables, and cakes, truly a rich assortment—while a pleasant sun gently warmed the guests
